Adopt a Shelf will be a new program at Fisher this year! Every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student will have the chance to adopt their very own library shelf. Any student in these grades who wants to participate can do so!
Adopt a Shelf is: *A way for you to take responsibility in your school library *A way for you to take pride in your school and help keep it looking great *A way for you to discover and share books you might have never noticed before
How Adopt a Shelf works:
*You will choose a shelf to adopt in the section assigned by Mrs. Totin. *When you find the shelf you would like to adopt, write your name and the shelf number on the Shelf Sign-Up sheet at the circulation desk. * Mrs. Totin will write your name on a name tag and tape it to the shelf close to the shelf number. *You will be responsible for maintaining that shelf regularly. You may come to the library before school if Mrs. Totin is there, on your class library days, or at other times during open checkout when you have permission from your teacher.
How to Straighten Your Shelf:
*Make sure all books are pulled to the front edge of the shelf and are even. *Book spines should be facing out and spine labels should be at the bottom of the spine. *If you find a book that doesn't belong on your shelf, please bring it to the desk and put it on the correct rolling cart shelf. *If you see a book on your shelf that you've read, would like to recommend to other students to read, and there is space on your shelf, simply do this. Come to the desk, pick up a display stand, and place your book on it somewhere on your shelf.
Recognition:
*Each week, Mrs. Totin will choose one shelf from each section to be Shelf of the Week. *Those shelf adopters will receive a Book Fair Buck! *Mrs. Totin will keep track of the shelves each week. *Book Fair Bucks will be given out right before the next book fair. *You can spend your Book Fair Bucks on any book fair item! For example, if you have 3 Book Fair Bucks, you would get $3 off your total.
Adopt-A-Shelf Rules
*Shelves may only be maintained at appropriate times: *Before school *During open checkout *During library class with permission *.Maintain your shelf and your shelf only. *.Do not purposely make a mess on someone else’s shelf. *If you are caught doing this, your shelf will automatically be disqualified that week and you will lose any Book Fair Bucks previously earned. * Make sure all books are standing up tall (unless they will not fit on the shelf – then put them spine up, call number out). * Make sure all call number stickers are at the bottom. *Make sure all books are pulled to the front evenly. *Check each book to make sure it belongs on your shelf. If not, place it on the correct rolling cart shelf.
