I hope everyone had an awesome summer, full of fun and great memories! Here's to an equally super school year 2015-2016!
I got to visit Wisconsin and Illinois this summer, where I was lucky enough to spend time with my mom, my older brother and his family, and my sister and her family. I also saw lots of my other relatives and visited some friends too. The weather was beautiful and we got to spend a lot of time outside!
I did manage to read quite a few books this summer. One of my favorites was a book called "Mountain Dog" by Margarita Engle. It is one of this year's Texas Bluebonnet Award candidates and is about a boy named Tony, who is sent to live with his uncle in the mountains after his mom is sent to jail for running a dog-fighting ring. Tony's new environment is nothing like his old one and it takes time for him to adjust. His uncle is part of an organization that helps train search and rescue dogs and to conduct searches and rescues for missing people. Tony's world opens up when he becomes involved too, and he develops positive relationships with his uncle and his uncle's dog, Gabe. The story has strong themes of family, compassion, and triumph over adversity.
I have two questions for you:
What is something fun you did over the summer?
What is the title of a good book you read over the summer?
I look forward to reading your replies!
